Our clients have been opting to purchase more lab grown Blue Sapphires. This is on account of the cost being about 10% of their natural counterparts. Lab grown blue sapphire gems are cut and facetted from very slowly grown blue sapphire crystals in a controlled environment that closely mimics how blue sapphire crystals are grown underground in Mother Nature. Sadly all over the internet the term “Lab grown ” crystals is 99% greatly misrepresented as genuine lab grown gems are completely different from synthetics which are generally a chemical melt mix that do not have a crystalline geometrical structure at the nano molecular, ionic or atomic level. What is imperative for a gemstone cut from a lab grown crystal is that the crystal has a crystal -axis so that it can be assured to have the covalent bond of electrons in alignment like its natural counterpart. The very inexpensive synthetics are much cheaper to grow and also do not have a C=axis which means they may have a crystalline structure but not a single crystal structure or alignment of the atoms. Our natural Blue Sapphires are bought in Sri Lanka while on buying trips to the mining sites. Our lab grown blue sapphires can be bought back at full price if a client wants to upgrade at a later date to a natural blue sapphire.
